Oxford Road in Calne will reopen on Thursday after being partially closed for two weeks.

The road has been closed between Tesco and High Penn since Thursday, December 8 for tarmacking, causing disruption to local bus routes.

But Wiltshire Council have confirmed that the road will reopen on Thursday, December 22 as planned.

The closure has impacted the number 55 bus service run by Stagecoach over the last two weeks, with the bus unable to service the closed section of the road.

Stagecoach have explained the diversion for those who will be using the number 55 service between now and Thursday.

A spokesperson for the company said: “On approach to Calne from Hilmarton, at the Tesco Roundabout, the bus will turn right onto the bypass. It will follow the bypass until it gets to Stanier Road, where it will then turn left.

“The bus will follow this into Porte Marsh Industrial Estate, turn right onto Porte Marsh Road and follow it to the end. At the T-Junction, the bus will turn right onto Oxford Road to go back onto its normal route just beyond the Bug and Spider. The same applies in reverse.

“Please accept our apologies, that during the closure, we won't be able to serve the Bug and Spider bus stops.”

The service will run as normal from Thursday.
