A fallen tree has blocked a road in Rowde and brought down electrical cables, causing police to shut the road.

The tree fell overnight between Sunday, December 18 and Monday, December 19 on Marsh Lane.

Police were called to the scene at 2.25am.

Officers stayed at the scene to oversee traffic management before the road was closed by Wiltshire Council, at the request of the police, to assess the damage.

The road remained closed this morning as the council worked with the area’s energy suppliers SSE.

A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said: “We closed the road at the request of the police after a tree had fallen and brought cables down.

“We are currently following up with SSE about whether the necessary road works have been completed.”

SSE have not reported any power outages in Rowde as a result of the fall despite the tree landing on the electrical cables on the opposite side of the road.

The council are yet to confirm when the road will reopen.
