Melksham CATS 3, Westbury B 14: With only one point between these two teams this was always going to be a close game.

Melksham went out strongly from the first whistle and took control of the game with sharp passing through the centre court from C Amy Norgrove to WA Jane Andrew. The shooting partnership of Gemma Ball and Lisa Kellett ensured a 9-3 lead to Melksham at the end of the first _.

The second saw Westbury settle into their game and play evened out between the 2 sides. A change in positions saw Jo Day move to GS where she and Ball worked tirelessly to ensure the ball remained in their circle and the most was made of their shooting opportunities. Melksham ended that ahead 19-4.

In the third Westbury consolidated their game. Their GD and GK made some terrific interceptions thereby limiting Melksham's shooting chances. Accurate shooting by Westbury's GS saw them increase their score-line. However, they were unable to make any impression on Melksham's score. That ended 27-11 to Melksham.

The final quarter was very even but Melksham always had the edge. Despite good marking and tactical play by Westbury's GA and centre court players, Melksham's circle defence of Sue Mortimer and Mel Rolph ensured that scoring opportunities were restricted and the ball was cleared quickly. The final score did not reflected how evenly matched these two sides were.
