The Devizes bakery behind the Santa’s Yumnuts favoured by TV chat host James Corden is looking for more than 100 people to join its team.

Business is booming so much for Bakkavor Devizes that it is advertising to expand its staff by almost 20 per cent.

The company, based on the Hopton industrial estate, produces around 60,000 packs of bakery products each day on the site – including tarts, yum-yums, pies, crumbles and, seasonally, Santa’s Yumnut for Marks & Spencer.

The yumnut – a cross between a doughnut and a yum-yum – became a Twitter sensation in 2020 when Marks & Spencer saucily tweeted, “who wants a bite of Santa’s Yumnut?”

The post caused a spate of amusing tweets including one from the Ann Summers sex shop group, which posted “If Ann Summers did doughnuts... #justsaying”.

The sweet treat also drew the attention of James Corden, host of The Late Late Show, who posted to his 1.5 million followers, “nothing like Santa’s Yumnut to make your holiday jolly & bright!”

The bakery currently has 535 staff in Devizes and needs 100 more because, its spokesman said, “the business has been growing in the last few years and our customers love our products, the extra staff is to ensure we can meet the growing demand forecast for this year and beyond”.

Pay scales for the vacancies in the production and logistics departments are £9.91 to £12.51 per hour with additional overtime available at enhanced rates. The jobs at Devizes cover both day and night shifts on a 4-on/4 off pattern.

Stuart Dillon, Bakkavor site operations manager, said: “This is an exciting time for our Devizes site as we continue to develop and launch new sweet bakery products into the supermarkets, and we’d love people to join to be part of this success.”
