The jury in the Balcombe case were sent home at 4pm today having failed to return a verdict.
Judge Wynne-Williams told the jurors they had been sitting for five hours and added: "That is enough for one day."
The jury has to decide whether Peter Balcombe, 47, is guilty of murder or guilty of manslaughter after being provoked.
The case resumes tomorrow, Wednesday, morning.
