There is something for everyone during the Pewsey Carnival fortnight that got under way last weekend.

For the next ten days everything in Pewsey will geared towards the carnival and its illuminated procession on September 22.

Some carnival events kicked off well before the fortnight started, even as far back as May when a plant sale raised more than £700 for carnival funds.

There was a car treasure hunt on the August bank holiday Monday in memory of the late carnival stalwart Clifford Cossor' Goldswor-thy.

Carnival fortnight proper started on Saturday with a mobility buggy treasure hunt organised by Cossor's daughter Carol Parsons.

Sunday saw a bowls competition and a children's fancy dress parade and tea party.

Carnival queen Kayleigh Bryant switched on the carnival lights around the centre of the village on Sunday.

Tonight sees the first of the really big events, the Wine Race in which fancy dress teams of three with their legs tied at the ankle dash around the pubs.

Tomorrow the Hasbeens are running a karaoke night in the Bouverie Hall and, on Saturday, it is the children's duck race, at 2pm at Scotchel, followed in the evening by a Goodnight Sweetheart 1940s style dance in the Bouverie Hall.

The traditional Pewsey Feaste tea for the over 60s is on Monday in the Bouverie Hall.

Cossor's Sale, a huge jumble sale and auction is on Wednesday.

The village is holding its breath for the enormous spectacle of the Wheelbeero race on Thursday when as many as 200 teams in fancy dress race decorated wheelbarrows around the village.

The Wheelbeero Race has become almost as popular as the carnival procession itself and attracts huge crowds.

Saturday's procession with its illuminated floats will start at 7.30pm and take two hours or more to wind its way through the village.
