The headteacher of tragic road accident victim Hugo Hawkes has paid tribute to the popular student whose friends called him Huggie.
The 12-year-old died at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford on Monday, six days after being in collision with a car as he crossed Potterne Road, Devizes to join his friends playing in a park.
Hugo attended Dauntsey's School in West Lavington, as does his sister Holly, 14.
Head Stewart Roberts said Hugo had a very successful first year there and had been looking forward to starting back.
He added: "Hugo was a very special young man who put 100 per cent into everything he did. He enjoyed much success in his first year with us, both in and out of the classroom and, not least, on the cricket field.
"Talented yet modest by nature, he was immensely popular, he was affectionately know as Huggie, and he will be missed in this community and not least by his many friends."
Hugo moved to Milton Lilbourne with his family from the London area last year.
Neighbours said they knew little about the family who were very pleasant and were still settling in at their new home in The Old Severalls.
One neighbour said: "He was a lovely boy and was always very pleasant."
