Children and young people in Wiltshire are being asked to have their say on the future of their local libraries.

The county council will be providing questionnaires in 17 of its libraries asking visitors to complete a survey on what they think of the service it provides.

Children aged 15 and under can fill in the forms from September 24 to 29. Mobile libraries will be conducting the survey for a further week, finishing on October 5.

Staff will be on hand to help fill the questionnaires out, and parents/carers of younger children will be asked to complete the survey on their child's behalf.

The libraries taking part are Amesbury, Calne, Chippenham, Cricklade, Devizes, Durrington, Lyneham, Malmesbury, Market Lavington, Mere, Ramsbury, Salisbury, Tidworth, Trowbridge, Westbury, and the Wilton and Chippenham mobile libraries.

It is hoped the county council will find out how children currently use its libraries and discover how satisfied they are.

Sarah Hillier, county children's and young people's librarian at the county council, said: "I am looking forward to reading the comments raised on the questionnaires.

"It will be especially interesting to see the views given on our main services, such as book and computer usage."

The results of the surveys will be made available through participating libraries and on the county council's website www.wiltshire.gov.uk later in the year.

An action plan to make improvements will be created for each library based on the results and comments made in the questionnaires.
