RED DIVISION

Amesbury Juniors had the edge on visitors and local rivals Bemerton Heath Harlequins running out 3-2 victors in a very close game.

Tom Plant, Kieran Robson and Lloyd Barr scored for Amesbury.

A full blooded game was played between home side FC Chippenham and Westbury Youth with great passion and commitment by both teams and without ever descending into nastiness.

Westbury pressed for much of the game but could not turn their possession into realistic goal scoring chances.

Chippenham defended stoutly and made the most of their attacks when they came. Despite several corners the game got to half time at 0:0 but Westbury had been denied by the crossbar.

The second half continued as the first had finished with strong Westbury pressure, however, it was only a few minutes old when a rare Chippenham breakaway resulted in the first goal, Westbury being a little slow to realise the danger.

Following this Westbury allowed Chippenham to get back into the game a bit, but it was not long before they got themselves fired up once again.

Then after fifty-five minutes they got the game back level, a goal mouth scramble saw Chippenham fail to clear their lines and Martin Perry seized on the chance to fire the ball home.

The game had now swung back firmly in Westbury's favour and further pressure saw a Sam Reeves shot across goal beat the keeper but come back off the post.

Further chances came and were spurned when Chippenham once more got the ball to the Westbury end of the pitch a bit of sloppy defending and a desperate lunge by a Westbury defender saw the referee give a penalty for handball.

This was very efficiently put away by Chippenham to take them back into the lead. This bit of bad luck drove Westbury back on the offensive and they threw everything into attack.

Eventually some good work by Tom Beer on the edge of the box enabled him to make some space and then drive a great shot into the top far corner, bringing Westbury back level.

Further chances did come, including Westbury's Jonny Tribick hitting the post again but Chippenham were able to hold on for the draw. .
