TABLE tennis championships are well underway at the Community and Youth centre after Marlborough Rotary Club gifted the group a new set to play on.

The gaming table was presented to the youth club with mayor Lisa Farrell by club president Cedric Hollinsworth during a busy youth club held at the centre every Friday night.

Cllr Farrell said: "It has already made such a difference, especially for the older children and what is great is that is gets them talking and interacting with each other. When we first came to the centre the equipment was falling to bits but this is a brand new table bought especially for the kids."

Mr Hollinsworth said: “In discussions with the Town Clerk and Mayor they asked if Rotary was able to offer any financial support for the centre. At the time we were heavily committed to the radio therapy appeal in conjunction with Brighter Futures, but we said if there was a particular item of equipment required, we would endeavour to source it.

“They asked for a table tennis table, so we funded one, as part of our Community Service programme.”

Children from the town can take part in the youth club on Friday evenings from 4-7pm for ages 10 and up.
