PEOPLE struggling to cope with loneliness in Chippenham are invited to a social at the town's regular Prayer Cafe on Saturday, June 24, where they can meet new friends and enjoy activities including art and pet therapy.

"We have found though our Prayer Cafe that loneliness is a major difficulty in our community," said Nigel Grima, one of the event organisers. "We are basing the theme on the Footprints in the sand poem.

"We will have different social activity tables such as art, gardening, pet therapy, aromatherapy and hand massage and peer support. Each table will provide information on organisations associated with each theme, such as conservation organisations on the gardening table, if visitors would like to gain more from the experience.

"We hope to encourage person-to-person social engagement, in contrast to social media which often causes isolation."

The Prayer Cafe on June 24 runs from 11am-1pm at Station Hill Baptist Church, Chippenham and is led by Sue Richards, Sharon Frost and Nigel Grima.
