A RECRUITMENT drive has been launched by Marlborough Town Council, calling on residents to put themselves forward as councillors for the forthcoming May election.

The elections, which take place on May 4, will see 16 councillors elected – eight in each of the east and west wards.

The town clerk, Shelley Parker, is encouraging people within three miles of the Marlborough parish boundary, covering Marlborough and Manton, to serve the community over the next four years.

“It is a real opportunity – a chance to make changes and influence what happens in your community,” she said.

“There’s likely to be some tough decisions to take and real changes to make. The need for committed community-minded councillors is vital.

“Wiltshire Council is receiving less from central Government while aiming to maintain high levels of service for the care of our most vulnerable.

“This means that there is a knock-on effect on the town council as some local services are reduced, and local decisions, at town council level, become ever more important.”
