TIME is up for the Pewsey Gallery as the owners have said they will close at the end of the month as they cannot go on any longer.

After nearly seven years of showcasing the work of aspiring artists, directors Heloise Tofts and Sandra Sargeant decided they could not continue to run the business at a loss.

The two of them had been running the gallery, located in the High Street, without taking wages and their income has not been enough to cover their outgoings, which includes having to pay commercial rent on the premises.

"We cannot thank enough all the 50 or so volunteers, locals and artists, who have given their time and we could not have lasted this long without them. I hope you know who you are and feel appreciated," said Mrs Sargeant.

"We have done our best over the last six years to sell artists good but we can do that no longer unfortunately. Early on it was a very exciting time and we really enjoyed it but in the last couple of years it has been very difficult and it has been detrimental to our health and bank balances.

"Throughout our time here we have had some terrific work from prints to jewellery and paintings to glasswork, so we will be sad to see it go."

The gallery opened in 2010 and has showcased thousands of art work from artists across Wiltshire over the years. It has also held monthly exhibitions, as well as talks and workshops.

Originally they had four directors but one died and another moved abroad. In the last couple of weeks, the gallery will be will be selling off shop fittings including plinths, professional hanging system, tables, chairs, and office furniture to meet other outgoings.
