A DEVIZES primary school has praised Roundway Parish Council after the donated £1,000 towards the purchase of a defibrillator.

Nursteed Primary School received the potentially life-saving equipment thanks to the parish council chipping in with the sum to add to the hundreds of pounds that the school and the archery club had raised. Money has also come from Slimming World, Jane Wilcox Yoga and Matt Fiddes Ladies Fitness.

Headteacher Tim Heath said: "As a community school we are very glad to share our facilities with a wide range of organisations every week.

"We are delighted that together we have been able to provide this life-saving equipment for whoever might need it, during the school day or beyond."

The school have been trying to raise funds for the defibrillator for months now and have been helped along the way by the archery club, who use the school for their weekly sessions.

Chairman of Roundway Parish Council, Chris Callow, said: "We have held our council meetings at Nursteed School for many years and are happy for the support the school have supplied.

"Defibrillators can play a vital role in saving the lives of pupils, staff and other users of the school so we are delighted to assist in providing a lifeline for people in need."

Parish councillor Albert Wooldridge said that this was a very important move as the nearest defibrillator to the school, by Windsor Drive, was around a mile away to the town centre.

"You cannot put a price on something like this as it really can save lives," he said

"There are two or three of these in the town centre but on this side of the town, this is the only one. Personally I think we need two or three more just in case."
