ANDREW Carr (Gazette letters, October 13) put the case for the return of grammar schools.
I have never yet come across anyone who supports this who failed the 11-plus themself; or who wants grammar schowols back but thinks their own children or grandchildren wouldn’t gain places in them.
I am waiting to read a letter from someone making the case for a return to secondary modern schools – because that is what the future education would be for a majority of 11-to 16-year-olds, perhaps as many as 80 per cent of them.
