THIS weekend Fairtrade Wiltshire will host South West Fairtrade Day in Chippenham.

The conference will be held from 10.30am–4pm in St Paul's Church.

Around 100 people from across the South West are expected to attend, including Fairtrade community groups, church representatives and retailers selling Fairtrade products.

The aim will be to discuss sales of fairly traded products that benefit producers in the developing world, with a focus on the Fairtrade Gold initiative.

Jenny Foster, the South West Fairtrade co-ordinator, said: “The South West is one of the leading Fairtrade regions in the UK with 78 Fairtrade towns and villages, and Wiltshire itself is really moving forward on a Fairtrade county campaign.”

The conference will be addressed by Mike Gidney, director of the Fairtrade Foundation, and by a gold miner from Uganda, who will discuss the impact of the Fairtrade movement upon the livelihoods of his workers.

Admission is free and lunch will be provided.
