WE read with interest your news article about the problems the council had in getting the postal votes organised for the EU referendum. This is because we have had an additional very questionable problem that has yet to be resolved.

We were going on holiday to Scotland and therefore needed to get our postal registration completed. We did receive the postal registration forms and after filling them in, hand delivered them directly to the council office post box as given in the instructions, so that we could receive our postal cards.

As our holiday got nearer I telephoned the council offices to check where our postal votes cards had got to, only to be told that the council had no record that I had requested a postal vote and it was now too late to register to postal vote.

My worries are that a) the loss of these registration forms is not due to “lost in post” because they were hand delivered to County Hall post box. They have been lost due to the incompetence of the council themselves; b) the registration forms contained confidential and personal information.

We raise this issue with you as not only is this a very poor service from the council, but also in case others have had the same experience and contacted you as a result of the recent article.
