PLANS for the Vale and Wellbeing Centre in Pewsey have made another step towards the finish line with detailed plans for the centre having been submitted to planning.

The new leisure centre is part of Wiltshire Council’s £80 million programme to help deliver health schemes to people across the county. Whilst work will start later this year, people who use the current leisure centre are having to find elsewhere to go while it closes until completion of the development.

Jerry Kunkler, chairman of the Pewsey Area Board, said: “Our residents have played a key role in shaping the facilities which will be available at the Vale Health and Wellbeing Centre. We are now keen to move forward with these plans so everyone can benefit from the opportunities this will offer both now and for future generations.”

The new development is set to include a wide range of fitness gear including a new swimming pool, a room which can be booked out to groups for exercise classes and a meeting room. The new additions to the centre will add to the already used games area as well as offering an indoor skate park.

John Thomson, cabinet member for Communities, Campuses, Area Boards and Broadband, said: “This is an exciting new chapter for the Pewsey area as we move closer to creating this new £8 million centre, which will provide a real focal point for the residents.

“I’m looking forward to seeing these locally-led plans become reality. The Pewsey centre is one of seven across the county and it will provide excellent facilities for the local area.”
