HEALTHY eating has been at the top of the timetable for a number of children and their parents from a village school near Devizes.

All Cannings primary has been teaching both pupils and their mums and dads how to create healthy snacks to replace high sugar and high fat treats.

Under the guidance of Gretchen Winter they were taught how to create the alternatives which could be enjoyed at break times as part of the school's drive towards healthy eating.

A workshop for youngsters from all year groups helped them use hummus to create dunkables and stackables and a healthy pick and mix.

In the evening more than 50 parents went to an information evening with demonstrations and practical activities and exchange tips.

Older children from the cookery school and younger ones from the school's cookery club were in action creating showing off their cookery skills.

A school spokesman said: "Other pupils were able to share their own recipes or their own findings on project such as the amount of sugar in breakfast cereals or how to make smoothies, stir fries and omelettes.

"The school is well on its way to achieving Gold level Healthy Schools Award and staff, children and parents recognise the importance of this learning in its own right."
