EVERY single pupil at St Peter’s Junior School in Marlborough donned their best festive jumper with pride today for Christmas jumper day.

Their usual green school jumpers were swapped for ones featuring Rudolf the red nosed reindeer, snowmen, Christmas trees and polar bears.

The youngsters also did a special parade around St Mary’s Church, filling the building with choruses of Jingle Bells and the children enjoyed it so much there was two encores.

Afterwards, headteacher Caroline Spindlow gave out awards to pupils for things such as best behaviour and attendance to celebrate the end of the year.

Mrs Spindlow, who was herself also wearing a fetching festive jumper, said: “It was really lovely.

“Stood at the front of the church was this sea of jumpers. We had Rudolph, there were flashing lights and an amazing advent calendar jumper.

“The children were really happy to support the appeal and we were supporting Save the Children as the founder Eglantyne Jebb, was also founder of our school.”

The pupils were asked to bring in a £1 donation and Mrs Spindlow was still counting the money raised when she spoke to the Gazette.

She added: “It was a lovely way for us to round off 2015. 2016 is going to be a very exciting year for us as the new-build plans are underway for the new school. The children are also going to be doing some fantastic topics.”

Many other people in the town also dusted off their festive jumpers from their wardrobes as part of ITV’s Text Santa fundraising appeal which will be shown on TV tonight from 8pm.

All donations will be shared equally between Macmillan Cancer Support, Make-A-Wish UK and Save the Children.

A host of stars will be presenting the show from Phillip Schofield, Amanda Holden, Olly Murs and Holly Willoughby. You can donate £5 by texting the word SANTA5 to 70760 or donate £10 by texting SANTA10 to 70760.
