ACTOR and TV presenter Warwick Davis will be the special guest at this year's Chippenham Christmas Lights Switch On.

The Life's Too Short, Star Wars and Harry Potter actor will kick off a weekend of celebrations aiming to be the biggest event of its kind in the town ever.

The lights switch on will commence at 5pm on November 28, centred on a stage erected on the town bridge.

This year is a two-day event, featuring a packed programme of attractions and entertainment including a roller disco in the Neeld Community and Arts Centre, bands, choirs and carol singers, a Christmas market in Market Place and an artificial snowstorm.

The theme of the event will be 'A Fairy Tale Christmas' and has been organised by the Chippenham Business Improvement District in association with Chippenham Town Council.

BID manager, Carolyn Brownell, said: "As this will be the first Christmas in Chippenham under the BID we have been working hard to ensure it’s a real draw for people and something that puts Chippenham on the map.

"There will be no need to go anywhere else and the intention is to make Christmas 2015 one to remember for both residents and town centre businesses.

“At a time when many other towns and cities are struggling to be enthusiastic about Christmas, we are very excited to be in a position to really celebrate and make it something special for Chippenham.”

Shops and other businesses will be to lighting up their premises with Christmas trees part funded by the BID.
