YOUTH Action Wiltshire, the Youth Arm of Community First, is a charity which seeks to help young people, particularly recent school leavers who are finding the job market difficult.
The group has often used West Lavington village hall, but this month a National Citizenship Scheme (NCS) team have excelled themselves in and around the building, making planters, cleaning walls, clearing and tidying the car park of weeds and rubbish, and completely digging over the two Youth Club flower beds.
Their community actions have benefitted the parish, the village hall and the youth club, and they were a credit to themselves in attitude and cheerfulness.
The planters and flower bed work reflects the aims of Streetscene, a recently formed group aiming to improve the ambience of West Lavington and Littleton Pannell. Streetscene and the West Lavington village hall committee helped and guided the youngsters in conjunction with Youth Action Wiltshire staff members. Plants and compost were donated by Streetscene and Wilton Garden Centre of the Blue Diamond Group.
West Lavington village hall is itself on an improvement drive with work to improve heating and lighting starting soon, followed by the replacement of 50-year-old hardboard panelling and redecoration if sufficient funds can be raised.
Youth Action Wiltshire is a frequent user of the hall, conveniently situated near the middle of the county. Both sides look forward to this productive partnership continuing.
