The weeks are ticking away to the Marlborough Race For Life, which last year raised more than £113,000.

The 2007 race will be on June 3 around the grounds of Marlborough College.

The public school Master Nick Sampson has promised to be at the start to help wave off the expected 1,500 runners.

It's a women-only five-kilometre event, all off-road within Marlborough College.

Participants can get around the course in any way they like that involves their own two feet: race, jog or walk.

Even mothers with baby buggies or pushchairs can take part.

So far 860 women have enrolled.

Race organiser Hannah Davies said: "We have 600 places still available but we expect them to be snapped up so anyone taking part should not delay in enrolling."

They can log on to the race website www.raceforlife.org or call the entrants' hotline 08705 134 314.

Ms Davies said the organisers were desperate for more volunteers to help marshal the race.

She said: "Many of the contestants have husbands or partners who we would love to see come along and help on the day."

The Gazette would like to hear from contestants about their reasons for taking part. If you have a story, call Gazette reporter Nigel Kerton on (01672) 514072 or e mail nkerton@newswilts.co.uk.
