Former cancer patient Julie Palmer and her husband Stuart have decorated the window of their Corsham shop in pink to raise money to fight cancer .

The 43-year-old mother-of- one, who suffered from breast cancer in 2003, is also running the Race For Life for Cancer Research UK.

The Palmers, who run ES Electrical in the High Street, are donating a percentage of sales of pink household items, such as toasters and hoovers to the charity.

Mrs Palmer said: "We have decorated the window with all sorts of pink items, including a vacuum, iron, toasters and pink fairy lights.

"We will be donating ten percent of the sales of these things to the cancer charity."

Mrs Palmer first ran the Race For Life in 2005, when her daughter Emma, then a pupil at Corsham School, was taking part with friends.

She said: "Emma had decided to take part because I had suffered from cancer and so it was something close to her heart.

"Since then I have taken part every year and Emma, who is now 19, is coming down from Canterbury, where she is at university, to take part again with me."

Mrs Palmer worked at the electrical shop throughout her cancer treatment.

She and her husband, 59, know many people in the area, especially Stuart who has had the shop for over 20 years.

The brave mum, who is originally from Essex, moved down to Corsham in 1997 to live with her then husband.

She said: "I was diagnosed in July 2003 with breast cancer, but as there was more than one tumour, I had to have chemotherapy before they could operate."

"Later that year I had a mastectomy and then had radiotherapy in early 2004 and it was a very tough time, but I think working through it helped.

"Since then I have been fine though, but I have always supported Cancer Research since."

Last year, the bubbly shop owner said she raised £500 through taking part in the Race for Life.

She said: "This year I have about £295 so far, and I am not running until June 16 in Swindon."
