THANKS to all those who supported Calne Choral’s concert last Saturday and to St Mary’s School for letting us use their wonderful chapel. We have brought music to the town since 1886 and this programme mixed a classical Haydn Mass with the modern Chilcott Requiem – two very different styles and challenges to both choir and orchestra.
Calne Choral tries to encourage young talent and we have to thank our musical director, Phil Springate for bringing us four young soloists who are already singing with internationally recognised choirs and companies. Three of them are members of the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and the fourth is a performer with the prestigious Sixteen group and a Chichester Cathedral choir member.
I would also like to apologise for the ticketing confusion, but hope that this will not prevent anyone from joining us for our Gilbert and Sullivan summer concert on July 11. As part of our community involvement, we shall also be taking part in the Calne Spring Sing on April 18, so join us then in trying out a few Gilbert and Sullivan choruses.
DAVID GILLETT Vice chairman Calne Choral Society
