CHILDREN at Urchfont Primary got creative with visiting performance poet, author and specialist English teacher David Mason last week.

The two day visit saw all the children work with Mr Mason, turning acts of drama into creative writing masterpieces.

The author, who has written 25 poetry and story books for children, also gave an evening performance of his work.

Head teacher Carol Talbot said: “The children absolutely loved it.

“We as a school always enjoy visits from David and the workshops really help to improve the children’s descriptive writing.”

Mr Mason has developed a reputation for significantly raising standards in writing, through his company Inspire to Write, and has been sharing the secrets of his success with pupils and teachers through his workshops with schools.

This was the author’s second visit and Mrs Talbot has said, due to the success, the schools plans to have him return every couple of years.
