Devizes-based children’s charity Youth Action Wiltshire has been awarded £9,948 to help disadvantaged young people develop their environmental awareness.

Awards for All – a scheme designed to provide small lottery grants to projects in local communities – has granted Youth Action Wiltshire the money to run an Environmental Credits project for 50 young people.

The teenagers, aged 14-18, will get the chance to take part in conversation and environmental projects, learning practical and personal skills which they may otherwise be unable to develop.

The project will also show Young Leaders how to deliver conservation sessions to their own groups and clubs.

The young people involved are likely to be those who are not in education, employment or training, young carers or those suffering from low confidence and self-esteem.

Young people most likely to gain from the courses will be referred to the charity by youth and social workers.
