People in Devizes have a chance to see proposals for up to 50 homes in the town designed to help older residents live independently for longer.

The £9m Wiltshire Council scheme on the Southfield care home site in Victoria Road will include a restaurant, health and wellbeing suite, gardens and guest accommodation.

The Homes and Commun-ities Agency has provided £800,000 towards the cost of the development which will include a mixture of affordable rent and shared ownership properties.

People will have a chance to comment when drawings of the proposed development go on display at the Corn Exchange on October 9, from 10am to 7pm, and there will be a display at Devizes library from October 10 to 16.

The planning application is likely to be submitted in November, and building work could start in summer 2015, with the complex ready by late 2016.

A new care home is currently under construction in Horton Road and residents will move there from Southfield and Anzac House care homes when it is completed.
