AN information day for older people will be held at Devizes Fire Station on Monday to promote everything from safety to good health.

The Senior Wellbeing event, organised by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm at the fire station in Southbroom Road.

Aimed at anyone over the age of 50, it will feature a range of displays and information stands, covering home safety, finances, nutrition and eye care.

Among the organisations taking part will be Swindon Borough Council, Wiltshire Council, Bobby Van Trust, Wiltshire Police, Nationwide Building Society, Specsavers and Wiltshire Farm Foods.

Admission to the event is free.

Group manager Kathy Collis, from the service’s community safety department, said: “Statistics show that the risk of dying in a fire for those aged 65 and over is more than twice as high as the average risk for all ages.”
