A new informal seating area in the form of a three-ton limestone rock has been created in Market Lavington.

The rock, which came from Shepton Mallet, is on the green near St Mary’s Church and has been acquired as part of the village’s plans to commemorate the First World War.

Frank Jones, chairman of Lavington and District World War One commemoration group, said: “It has been placed on the green to allow people time to sit and contemplate and take in the view across the village towards Salisbury Plain.

“The stone will be engraved and formally unveiled at a date to be confirmed.”
