Campaigners fighting to save Cricklade Leisure Centre are asking its users to keep faith in them and not seek facilities elsewhere.

Due to its uncertain future, the centre is not taking long-term bookings for various classes and clubs.

The Keep Leisure in Cricklade group is currently finalising its business plan for taking on the centre, which it must submit to North Wiltshire District Council by February 1.

Campaign leader Gary Walker said: "We are asking people to hold on until we get the all clear from the council.

"Once people have made a commitment elsewhere it can be difficult to get them back.

"We just want people to hold fire and wait until we get the yes' or no' from the council, which we expect will be mid-February."

Mr Walker said he was delighted with the way their business plan was progressing.

"We are just finalising it at the moment and putting it into a presentable format," he said.

"We are well on track and don't expect any delays in meeting their February 1 deadline.

"It was an extremely short deadline, but we think we have got together a very respectable business plan, and we can't see any reason why the council wouldn't accept it."

Mr Walker said one of the keys to their proposal was an improved marketing strategy.

He said they would be targeting people in north Swindon and not just Cricklade.

The group also plans to open a bar and café in the centre.
