Stunning new views of the site next to Lay Wood, on the boundary of Devizes and Bishops Cannings where 230-homes are to be built, have been taken by quadcopter.

Graham Risdon, who runs www.mediainventions.com in Trowbridge, sent his 'eye-in-the-sky' up after the go-ahead was given to the Crown Estate by Wiltshire Council for the development.

The followed the reaching of a deal worth more than £2 million being reached.

This includes

• £800,000 towards Devizes Transport Strategy.

• £57,000 towards traffic management and local safety improvements around Bishops Cannings and Bishops Cannings Church of England Primary School.

• Local schools in the area will also receive £1m towards provision of new places, while £140,000 will go to improving off-site sports provision, and £70,000 will go towards improvements to Kennet and Avon Canal.

The Crown Estate is now expected to begin the process of selecting a developer for an expected start date of early 2016.

Devizes, Roundway and Bishops Cannings councils all objected to the project but Wiltshire Council planning officers recommended that the applications be approved, due to more homes needing to be built under its Core Strategy.

The Lay Wood scheme was originally planned as 260 homes, but was cut to 230 after the discovery of a Roman villa on the site.

Of the 230 homes, 92 will be classed as affordable, while eight hectares of public open space and play areas will also be created.
