Wiltshire Young Farmers are having a bumper year, with 48 members getting through to 11 national competition finals.

Eleven members travelled to Stafford last weekend to compete in junior public speaking. Malmesbury YFC members, Sophie Taylor, Ella Morrison and Jack Bather came second overall. Sophie won the ‘Best Chairman’ trophy and Jack the ‘Best proposer of the Vote of thanks’ trophy.

The debating team of Rachel Arrowsmith and Rachael Watkins (Melksham YFC), George Hood (Purton & Cricklade YFC), Sam Maidment (Chippenham YFC) and Richard Lucas (Devizes YFC) came fourth.

A disco dancing team from Purton & Cricklade YFC travelled to Blackpool Winter Gardens and came eighth in the country.

The next competitions finals will be taking place on August 2 at the Tenbury Show where Devizes YFC Men & Salisbury YFC Juniors will be battling it out in the tug of war.
