Last Saturday evening I once again had the pleasure of joining the street pastors on one of their regular Saturday night patrol evenings in Chippenham town centre.
Their continued dedication to the safety of our local communities is something we all should admire and support. It is very pleasing to see a number of these valuable schemes across the county.
As it was the first England game in the World Cup I was keen to see some of our partners working together to ensure public safety and a safe environment for people to enjoy themselves.
It was very reassuring to see the police, street pastors and door staff all engaging with the community.
Whatever the outcome of the World Cup, I hope that the real winner will be that we witness a wonderful event that happens only every four years and that everyone plays a positive part and understands their own responsibilities for ensuring community safety.
