Hills Waste has won a fight to load recyclable materials onto lorries outside its building in Calne after this was vetoed by Wiltshire councillors last December.
At the company’s site at the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate around 100 tonnes of cardboard and plastic bottles are sorted every week.
It applied to remove a planning condition stipulating lorries must be loaded inside, arguing loading lorries inside the building was becoming dangerous for workers.
When this application was turned down, Hills appealed to the Government’s planning inspectorate and this appeal has been upheld.
The factory is close to Guthrie Close and St Dunstan’s Primary School, and Wiltshire councillors raised concerns over noise.
But planning inspector David Richards said that a certain amount of noise should be expected on an industrial estate.
He said: “The survey results showed that the noise contribution would be well below existing ambient noise levels in the area.”
