It would appear that your correspondent last week has little appreciation of what Bob Geldof and his contemporaries achieved in the 1980s. He and Midge Ure organised Live Aid in 1985, a global phenomenon that raised millions and saved countless lives in Africa. His expletive-laden appeals for money were a memorable part of that day and are a well-known part of his personality.
As for the comments that he is untalented and a terrible role model? I will be a proud father if my children achieve a fraction of what Sir Bob Geldof has done in his life. His knighthood is justly deserved and we felt privileged that he set aside his personal circumstances to perform at All Cannings.
