A team of mums and dads from Seagry, near Malmesbury, are preparing to take part in Tetbury’s Woolsack Race to raise money for Seagry Pre-school.
The event on Monday will see them carry sacks of wool weighing 60lbs – or 35lbs for women – up a steep hill as part of an age-old tradition dating from the Middle Ages.
Pre-school committee secretary Fayme Knight said: “I moved into the area two years ago and heard about the Tetbury Woolsack Race and thought ‘that seems like an interesting challenge’.
“We needed to get some fundraising and I thought this would be great if we could get a team together.
“We’ve had some volunteers come forward and have called the group ‘Mamas and Papas’.”
Mrs Knight, a personal trainer, has a four-year-old daughter, Freya, who is in her last year at the pre-school.
“This is our swan song,” she said.
Anyone who would like to support the team and make a donation can contact the pre-school on 07773 011321.
