Teenage volunteers’ High praise
1:00pm Saturday 22nd March 2014 in News
Teenagers who completed the National Citizen Service (NCS) by doing more than 30 hours of volunteering celebrated their achievement.
Thirteen people, aged 16 or 17, were presented with certificates by High Sheriff of Wiltshire, William Wyldebore-Smith, at West Lavington Village Hall.
The group worked together on volunteering, team building and skills development, undertook a residential course at Calshot Activities Centre and as part of their social action project they renovated a room on the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate, Calne, donated to Youth Action Wiltshire by Hills Waste Solutions to be used for young people’s training.
As part of the project they had to fundraise, packing bags at Morrisons in Devizes, holding a cake sale and setting up a Just Giving page and Facebook friends and families, bringing in over £450.
Cleo Evans, the lead for the NCS programme said: “ It’s really great that despite school, college and work commitments, the group have been motivated enough to help other young people. Thanks to Hills Waste who have donated the space in Calne.”
