I had an experience on February 21 which I have never had before in my life and that was to do a sleepout to raise money for the charity Opendoor for the homeless people of Devizes and the area.

I have never worn so many clothes in my life, not even in winter in Finland.

I know my husband, Ray Roberts (ex-Devizes school teacher), would have done it, so I was brave enough to say: “I’ll do it in memory of him”.

The main reason for this letter is to thank the hundreds of people, family and friends, who sponsored me.

I was determined to raise a lot of money and managed to raise £3,300 in two and a half weeks. I think that was more exhausting than the sleepout!

Add that to the £1,700 raised by the group, and it will be a great help to Opendoor, who work there on a voluntary basis.

Thank you Devizes and area plus Scotland, Wales and England for your generosity.

I really am so grateful for your love and care in supporting this worthwhile charity. The money will be very carefully used.

Renate Roberts, Orchard Close, Devizes.
