I had a chuckle on reading Robert Hayter’s letter in last week’s Gazette & Herald. I remember that 1940s very well.
Our lavatory was outside, also the well for the drinking water. There was no piped water inside the house, or electricity.
I used to take a cup of water upstairs each night and on winter mornings there would be a layer of ice on the top.
Those were truly the good old days!
