January was the wettest in Wiltshire in 64 years, with more than twice the average amount of rainfall, says amateur weatherman Geoff Witts.
According to figures provided by Mr Witts, of Steeple Ashton, a total of 178mm of rain fell during the month, beating the previous record of 165.3mm in 1995. The average rainfall for the last 64 years has been 72.3mm.
The wettest day was Friday, January 3, when 24.5mm was recorded, with only January 19 and 30 remaining completely dry.
It was also slightly warmer than usual, with an average temperature of 6.1 degrees.
The warmest day of the month was on January 5 when a high of 12.5 degrees was reached, with the coldest temperature being -1.7 on January 20.
