Just before Christmas I was driving back from Pewsey to Marlborough at about 10.30pm and got stuck in the middle of a massive puddle right across the road.

There were no signs out and by the time my headlights picked it up it was too late. Unfortunately my car gave up the ghost in the middle and I conked out.

Very luckily for me, the car in front stopped to see if I had made it out and when they saw I hadn’t they reversed and four lads jumped out. One of them waded through the puddle to my passenger door.

I could see then that the water was nearly a foot deep as the water was lapping over his boots. He offered to push me out and I gratefully accepted.

The lads then all waded into the freezing cold water and pushed me out with no trouble at all.

They then offered to jump start me but sadly after four goes my car was having none of it. They then pushed me into a driveway so I was off the road and offered me a lift back to Marlborough.

I declined and phoned the AA but asked to where I could send a gift and note of thanks but they told me “there’s no need for that”.

But I wanted to write this letter to say thank you in the hope that one of them might be reading it or someone might recognise the story and pass on the message that I was so grateful to them. I don’t know what I would have done without them as the recovery vehicle didn’t get to me until 1am.

Thank you lads, I’ll always remember your kindness.

Name withheld, Marlborough.
