Following Alan Hill’s excellent letter in last week’s Gazette & Herald expressing his concerns regarding Hills’ proposed expansion of the recycling facility within its Lower Compton site, I would like people to know that Calne Town Council is supporting Alan’s valiant efforts on behalf of the people of the town and has sent objections to the appropriate planning officers.
We are very conscious of the devastating impact such a large, permanent, strategic facility would have on our town.
Lower Compton is quite simply the wrong place for it. A strategic facility should be served by a strategic network, not local routes and country lanes. Other local councils have also voiced objections.
Coun Mercy Baggs, Calne Mayor.
