With regard to the proposed 10 per cent increase in council tax by Chippenham Town Council due to Wiltshire Council withdrawing the £65,000 grant to Chippenham Town Council. It’s odd that this amount is slightly less than the £80,000 which David Powell wants to spend on his pet project, the splash park in Johns Coles Park.
Postpone the splash park and there will be no rate increase. The children of Chippenham would understand that the splash pool would have to wait for another year or two. They are quite happy with what they have already.
Mr Powell, living on an ex- headmaster’s pension is easy compared with the majority of ratepayers in Chippenham. Please don’t trot out the same old lines: “It’s less than a pint of beer”. The number of times I’ve heard that said.
So David Powell, put the splash park on the list of changes you would like but we can’t afford. Also, Monkton Park: Wiltshire Councils want to get rid of it.
Does the local council really want it and the cost of maintaining it? What would you do with it? It’s an open green area only used as a shortcut to the town, by dog walkers and the funfair twice a year. Don’t take it on.
Peter Slatter, Elmwood, Chippenham.
