I see Jane Scott and her cronies form the lead article in the “Rotten Boroughs” section of the latest edition of the satirical magazine Private Eye – to the obvious embarrassment of all us Wiltshire residents who foolishly elected them. Little reason, however, why she and they should not be pilloried in this way, since is there no end to their folly?

On top of the notorious, disgraceful allowances increase for herself, her Cabinet colleagues and for seven senior managers while 252 council staff are made redundant, which is the subject of the Private Eye article, notably we also have the Balfour Beatty contract disaster and the spectacle of a mega-million extension of County Hall as though the current economic climate was non-existent.

Now, we learn that the previous District Council buildings in Bradley Road, apparently in excellent condition and of relatively modern vintage, are to be demolished. Surely attempts could have been made to find a tenant?

As a lifelong Conservative I am ashamed to be tarnished with the same brush as our current, highest echelon, county administration.
