Two teenagers charged with armed robbery following an incident at a Calne petrol station in August appeared at North Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court to face charges for the first time today.

Dylan Gaffey, of Cloatley Crescent, Royal Wootton Bassett, and Ryan Mills, of Broken Cross, Calne, are charged with robbery at the Murco petrol station in Oxford Road at 9.30pm on August 27.

The 18-year-olds are accused of entering the petrol station and robbing a female worker, gaining £491.04 in cash and cigarettes worth around £300.

Prosecutor Pauline Lambert said: “It’s an armed robbery in which two men went to the Murco garage while a female was on her own. Using a knife they asked her to provide money and cigarettes.”

The teenagers appeared before the magistrates in Chippenham separately to face the charges and they were referred onto Swindon Crown Court for a hearing on January 24.

Gaffey was represented by defence solicitor Mark Glendenning and Mills, who was accompanied by a family member at court, was represented by defence solicitor Raj Devitt.

Both have been released on conditional bail and are forbidden from contacting each other, as well as Leah Gray and Kelly Hames who could be called as crown court witnesses.

Mills, formerly of Blackberry Lane, Potterne, near Devizes, has been placed on an electronic curfew and must stay at his address in Broken Cross, Calne, from 9pm to 6am every day.

He must avoid going near the Murco garage, while Gaffey is not allowed to enter Calne and is subject to a doorstep curfew from 8pm to 6am at his address in Cloatley Crescent.
