Date set for inquest into Devizes pair’s deaths

THE inquest into the deaths of retired Wiltshire police inspector Bill Dowling and his partner Vicky Rose will be held on January 13 and 14 at Salisbury Coroner’s Court.

The couple were found dead at Mr Dowling’s home in Moonrakers, Devizes, on March 2, 2013.

They died from gunshot wounds and a shotgun was recovered from the scene.

Neighbours alerted the police after hearing an argument and shots being fired.

Two bodies were found lying in the glass porch of Mr Dowling’s semi-detached home.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths and confirmed Mr Dowling held a shotgun certificate and that his licence had been renewed by Wiltshire Police’s firearms licensing department in 2011.

Mr Dowling and Mrs Rose, who lived in White Horse Way, had been in a relationship for some years. It is understood Mr Dowling was suffering from depression after the death of his mother in 2012. Mrs Rose had broken up with Mr Dowling at Christmas 2012 but they had been getting back together.

Mr Dowling, 59, retired from Wiltshire Police in 2007 after 30 years and worked in Devizes, Trowbridge and Marlborough.

He then worked for 43 (Wessex) Brigade of the Army at Tidworth where he met Mrs Rose, who worked there as a civil servant. He was divorced with two sons and two grandchildren.

Mrs Rose, 58, a mother of two sons, worked at the MOD in Tidworth as a civil servant for 15 years, leaving in 2012.
