Lady Lansdowne is beginning preparations for Bowood’s Christmas Extravaganza, an event offering a luxury shopping experience and the chance to buy festive gifts.

The extravaganza, which is in its second year, begins on Wednesday, with a preview evening including cocktails and carols.

It runs from 10am to 5pm on Thursday, December 5, and from 10am to 4pm on Friday, December 6, with all-day shopping tickets available on the door.

Last year’s event was attended by The Duchess of Cornwall, who purchased gifts for her grandchildren and neckerchiefs for her two Jack Russells.

There will be several Christmas book signing and sales sessions, organised by the Corsham Bookshop and taking place in the library.

Guests include William Sitwell, author of The History Of Food In 100 Recipes, Country Life editor Clive Aslet, and Pen Vogler who will sell copies of Dinner With Mr Darcy.

Lady Lansdowne said: “This year there’ll be extra stalls – with a total of 56, all of which have now been secured, for a far wider selection of choice for Christmas.”

It will raise money via entrance fees for the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust, which gives a home security service for the elderly and disabled.

Tickets for the preview evening are £15. Tickets for Thursday and Friday are £8 on the door or £6 in advance. To book, call (01249) 812102. Visit http://tinyurl.com/ne6345t
