The Devizes Amnesty International group is inviting local people to join them in writing messages of hope to men and women around the world whose human rights have been abused and freedoms denied.
The event, on Saturday, is part of the organisation’s annual Write for Rights campaign and last year more than 150 greetings cards were sent from Devizes to individuals and groups across the world in need of encouragement and support.
This year Amnesty is urging supporters to use their freedom of expression to stand up for the freedom of others by writing letters of support to 13 cases from countries including Ethopia, Cambodia, Honduras and the Soviet Union.
Cards will be provided at the event at St John’s Parish Rooms, Long Street, between 10am and noon, and local group members will be on hand to help and provide participants with a welcoming cup of coffee.
