I am delighted to see that Wiltshire Council Highways is prepared for the winter ahead and is already gritting when warnings of ice are given. Chippenham is not.
With the refusal of Chippenham amenity committee to accept funding for filling the grit-bins which Wiltshire Council is prepared to supply to the town, I feel that it has missed an opportunity to share in what I consider to be a critical need within the town.
As the lead on road safety on the Area Board I cannot let this safety measure be bypassed. I am putting forward a request to the Area Board to review and reverse its decision to refuse its acceptance unless the town council funds the grit filling.
I am asking that this be done on an emergency basis as if we wait it could have serious consequences for our residents.
Bill Douglas, Wiltshire and Chippenham town councillor.
